WHAT I DO
Our bank is open every Wednesday at lunchtime (1.00pm-1.30pm). Our bank is located in the general purpose area. We chose to set up the bank here as it is the busiest place in the school at these times. It is where all the students eat their lunch, it is near the canteen and is also beside the main door of the school. Therefore, there is a steady flow of students and teachers passing us on their way to lunch.
Transition Year students from our school took part in the build a bank challenge for a number of years so the majority of students and teachers know what we are about and many of them have opened accounts with previous banks. We will have special themes at different times of the year. We hope this will attract students to use our bank and encourage them to open new accounts and save with us. We aim to make our customers “FealeGood”, so along with promotions, we will be posting daily positive quotes on our various social media accounts. This also promotes positive mental health.
AIB Build a Bank Competition
The AIB Build a Bank Challenge sees a team of six students selected to set up and manage a bank in their school with the full support of a dedicated AIB Student Officer. The students get involved in everything from developing a Business Plan, branding their Bank and engaging with the community to sourcing new customers through creative marketing campaigns.
All participating schools will be invited to showcase their School Bank at a Regional Final where they will present to a panel of judges, outlining what makes their School Bank best. All schools that partake in the Challenge will be awarded a Gold, Silver or Bronze Certificate.
The top winning School Bank Teams from each of the Regional Finals around the country will qualify for the National Final where the winner will receive a top prize of €5,000.
